Brantford's Grand Vision: Car-Free Corridors Paving the Way to a Greener Tomorrow

The city’s plan aims to create an integrated cycling and pedestrian network throughout the city over the next 10 to 15 years.
The network will accommodate all forms of active transportation including skateboarding, rollerblading and wheelchairs. It will seamlessly link neighbourhoods, parks, schools and businesses.
“This approval marks a pivotal moment for Brantford,” David Ferguson, the city’s manager of traffic services, said. “Our commitment to the active transportation master plan reflects our dedication to safer roads and healthier lifestyles for our residents.”
“The active transportation network is an important part of the city’s Vision Zero Action plan to eliminate serious and fatal collisions on our roadways.”
Ferguson said vulnerable road users – cyclists and pedestrians – are at high risk of harm when involved in collisions with motor vehicles.
Cycling and walking also help boost heart, bone health and build muscle, Ferguson said.
The plan also aligns with the city’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emission and enhancing air quality by alleviating traffic congestion.
